Tony and Suzanne Mitolo make you want to do better. Go harder. Bounce back. Chase and conquer. They’re the best kind of people, dreamers and doers with a gusto for love and life.

The Mitolos run a bustling Italian restaurant called Pizzateca in McLaren Vale. Pizzateca has patrons lining up outside the door to get their hands on THAT pizza. No surprise there—it’s hand-stretched, cooked in a customised wood-oven imported from Naples and features sugo on the base handmade by Tony’s dad, Vito.

It was when Vito’s magical sugo garnered a cult following of its own, followed by his wines … and his limoncello … and his shiraz vinegar … and his chilli honey … that we got on board. See, the Mitolos started jarring and selling Vito’s salt-of-the-earth, just-like-Nonno-makes produce and it was soon flying out the door. Tony marketed this produce under the name Oztalia, which he coined to describe his experience growing up as an Australian with a proud Italian heritage and an iron-tight love of family and culture.

Oztalia started off small but the Mitolos dream big. They knew to take Oztalia to the next step, it needed a real story, identity, look and vibe befitting the incredible produce and love affair between the two worlds.

There’s where we came in, opting to overlap two distinct design aesthetics, one pure Aussie and one all things Italia. We love how the branding has captured the Mitolo’s courage and fun energy and are thrilled to see it go from strength to strength. Oztalia now has its own online shop, distributors and a line of beer, and there’s plenty more coming.

Design thinking starts now.
